Mount Sinai is revered by Jews, Christians, and Muslims alike as the place where Moses received the Ten Commandments. And, according to belief, it was in the valley below that God spoke to him from a burning bush.
Nestled in the shadow of the sacred mountain is the Monastery of St. Catherine (Deir Sant Katreen), where communities of monks have lived almost uninterruptedly since its founding in the sixth century. Before the monastery, there was a chapel on this site, established in the fourth century AD by the Empress Helena at the place where tradition says that Moses saw the burning bush. This soon became a Place of pilgrimage, and in the sixth century, a fortified monastery was added by Emperor Justinian to protect the monks and pilgrims from raiders. It was not until much; later that the establishment was dedicated to St. Catherine. She was an early Christian saint who was Martyred in Alexandria in the fourth century.
Dahab has long been a favorite with budget travelers and the backpacker crowd, who pay just a few dollars a night for a bamboo hut on the beach. The place exists in a late-1960s time warp, where the spirit of Woodstock lives on. Most visitors are content to do little more than sprawl on throw cushions beneath the palms, dozing, reading, and letter-writing to a soundtrack of Jimi Hendrix, Bob Marley, and Pink Floyd, occasionally raising themselves for a brown-rice stir-fry or pizza at one of the many small beachfront cafés.
But there is more to it than that; there is also a modern resort area, known as Dahab City, with tranquil beachside hotels and chic restaurants, and not a hint of a hippy influence. Dahab also has the requisite fine diving, with the most famous—and most dangerous—of sites being the Blue Hole, a 215-foot-deep (66 m) shaft that has been known to claim several lives in a year.

She is, without exaggeration, one of the most exceptional guides I’ve ever had anywhere in the world. Incredibly knowledgeable, brilliantly organized, fluent in English, attentive, passionate, and genuinely dedicated to making the experience perfect for you. The GEM is absolutely massive, and after trying to visit it alone two days earlier, I can honestly say having a guide like Amany completely transforms the experience. On my first visit, I felt overwhelmed and missed so many important masterpieces. With Amany, every moment was optimized perfectly. I explained to her that I wanted to arrive right at opening time to photograph the museum’s most spectacular treasures before the crowds arrived, and then later take the time to walk through the galleries and really learn the stories behind the pieces. She executed this plan flawlessly. Everything was seamless, efficient, and perfectly timed. What impressed me most was how respectful and intuitive she was throughout the tour. She never rushed, never pushed, and completely adapted the experience to exactly what I wanted. She made the entire visit feel personal, relaxed, and unforgettable. And as an amazing bonus, she also gave me fantastic local food recommendations — a huge plus for a serious foodie like me! I cannot recommend Amany highly enough. If you book with the company, make sure you specifically ask for her. She is truly a world-class guide and an absolute gem herself. Highly recommend !Posted on Tripadvisor Barnoosh BVerified Luxury tour guided by expert I got details of the company from a friend who had used them last year. I contacted the owner Tariq via WhatsApp. We exchanged messages and had a phone conversation to set out an inteniary. Price was agreed, although we had some back and forth on payment schedule. In terms of service provided, it was excellent. We were met at the airport, fast-tracked through passport control, driven in air conditioned van to hotel. Tour guide (Mahmoud Khalifa) looked after us for 3 days in Cairo. Mahmoud is a graduate in the field and highly knowledgeable. He was excellent throughout as was our driver Mustafa. Overall, an unparalleled experience for the whole family in a unique city.Posted on Tripadvisor Daydream784306Verified An experience of a life time Tarek was absolutely fantastic we had him for 2 day tours.
